(L-R) Nydia, the main vet technician in the clinic, injects anesthesia while student vet techs, Omar and Grisseila, hold the dog steady.
Nydia (L) and Vivian (R) intubate every patient after administering anesthesia.
Vivian distracts this patient while Nydia prepares the injection.
Vivian prepares a blood test which will check for FIV, feline immunodeficiency virus, better known as kitty AIDS. This virus can’t be transferred to humans, but can infect other cats through deep bite wounds.
(L to R) Dr. Pedro Watlington injects pain medication while Vivian, Evelyn, and Nydia prepare the dog for surgery.
The yellow tape on this cat’s paw signifies that it’s a stray. Because of the rampant stray cat population on the island, the Humane Society alleviates the amount of strays through its Trap Neuter and Release (TNR) program. This stray cat will be released once it recovers from surgery.
A sedated cat who just finished surgery is placed into a cat carrier where the vet techs can keep an eye on her for any signs of discomfort.
Evelyn comforts Blind, a 6 month old chihuahua, who is waking up after his surgery.
